JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested a man believed to be the suspect involved in the stabbing of a policeman here.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the suspect was arrested at around 5am on Wednesday (July 12) in the Johor Baru city centre.

“I can confirm that police have made an arrest pertaining to the stabbing of a 22-year-old constable on Monday (July 10).

“Checks on the suspect found he tested positive for drugs and was high during his arrest,” he said when contacted by The Star.

ACP Raub, however, declined to elaborate further on the arrest as the case was still under investigation.

When asked about the condition of his injured personnel, ACP Raub said that he was out of danger and is improving.

“Alhamdulilah, the personnel is doing better but he is still being warded at Sultanah Aminah Hospital under medical observation for the next few days,” he added.

On Monday (July 10), the policeman was stabbed while on duty during Ops Tapis Khas, a nationwide operation to find and arrest drug addicts, at a parking lot at Jalan Ungku Puan here.

He received serious injury to the left side of his back rib after getting stabbed with a knife by the suspect at around 2.30am.

The victim, together with five personnel and one officer, was carrying out an inspection of three individuals suspected of drug abuse.

One of the suspects tried to escape, resulting in a scuffle with the victim, which led to him getting stabbed while the suspect ran away on foot.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
