Luxury home ‘belongs to Sanusi’s brother’

Mega mansion: A picture of the home in Sik, Kedah shared by China Press that was purported to be owned by the Mentri Besar.

PETALING JAYA: The multimillion-ringgit bungalow in Sik, which made news headlines recently, belongs to the brother of Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, said a statement from the Kedah Mentri Besar’s Office.

The office denied that Muhammad Sanusi had anything to do with the bungalow, the photo of which went viral on social media this week.

It said the property belonged to Muhammad Sanusi’s brother, Budin, who had painstakingly built it through hard work.

“The house does not belong to him. Not one sen of the Kedah Mentri Besar’s money was used to build the bungalow,” according to a China Press report quoting the statement yesterday.

“During this time, the bungalow owner saved money by working as a diver. He had to leave his wife and children for three or four months before returning home.

“While the wife fought for her life, giving birth to a child, the husband was fighting with sharks at sea. They are husband and wife, and their children have made many sacrifices throughout this time,” he said.

According to the statement, the snapshot, which included a Google Maps image, attempted to depict that the bungalow belonged to Muhammad Sanusi.

The statement added that the photo being circulated on social media is false and pure slander.

“These slanderers are working hard before the state election to influence the public into thinking that the Kedah Mentri Besar is wealthy enough to build a bungalow.

“What’s the matter with them? Is it wrong to save up after decades of work, risking one’s life in such dangerous situations to give a little joy to one’s family members?” the statement added.

The statement questioned the unfair treatment based on the owner’s blood relation to Muhammad Sanusi, asking whether having a brother who serves as a Mentri Besar should deprive a sibling of his right to build a large house using honest resources.“Some of you have never been there before and have no idea where the home is. Most Sik people know that the house belongs to Budin, not Sanusi.

“As a younger brother, Muhammad Sanusi knows his brother is stubborn, hard-working and disciplined, and even has a strong desire to improve living conditions,” it said.
