Search ops called off for seven-year-old boy feared drowned in Sg Desa Alam Ria

HULU SELANGOR: Search and rescue operations have been called off for a young boy who fell into Sungai Desa Alam Ria recently.

Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said in a statement on Tuesday (July 11) that they officially called off the operations at around 7.20pm after seven days of search efforts.

"The search efforts had led personnel all the way to a garbage trap near Bestari Jaya which is around 32km away from the initial area where the boy went missing but he has yet to be found.”

He said while the search and rescue operations have officially been ordered to stand down, the Fire and Rescue Department will continue to look for him on a much smaller scale in order to focus on specific locations.

He added that a total of 17 police personnel, 27 Fire and Rescue Department personnel, six volunteers from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris and 10 individuals from the Jabatan Amal Malaysia were involved in the operations to date.

He also said police deployed three personnel and a drone from the Drone Unit to aid in the search efforts.

It was reported that a seven-year-old boy was feared to have drowned at Sungai Desa Alam Ria on July 5.

Investigations showed that the boy dived into the river to retrieve a slipper that had fallen before he was swept away by the currents.

Supt Ahmad Faizal reminded parents and guardians of children to never leave them unattended to avoid any untoward incidents.
