Fleeing Nepali suspect nabbed over murder of countryman in Melaka

MELAKA: A fleeing Nepali was detained along the North-South Expressway hours after he allegedly murdered a countryman at a worker's hostel in Taman Merdeka Jaya in Batu Berendam, here.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit said the 20-year-old suspect was detained at 11.30pm on Wednesday (July 12) at the Pedas-Linggi Rest and Recreation Area along the expressway while trying to make his way to Kuala Lumpur.

"My men detained the suspect while he was on board an express bus," he said on Thursday (July 13).

ACP Christopher said the manhunt for the suspect was launched after the body of a 32-year-old Nepali man was found sprawled in a pool of blood at 6.42pm Wednesday at the three-storey shoplot turned hostel.

He said police also found a blunt object and telephone wire at the scene of the murder.

"The victim and the suspect had been employed as restaurant hands with the latter arriving here about three months ago," he said.

He said based on preliminary investigations, the suspect claimed he was dissatisfied after the victim had allegedly stolen his money.

The case is being probed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, he added.
