Once foes, now friends: PSB to work with PDP, backs state and federal govts

PETALING JAYA: The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) and Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will go from political rivals to partners following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties to work together.

PDP president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the agreement was another step to ensuring political stability in the state and country.

"We were enemies but we both share the same goals of achieving a prosperous nation and political stability.

"We will now move forward together for the sake of the stability, solidity and unity of the state government, which will hopefully bring about greater investor confidence and further development for the state.

"This will not only ensure the Sarawak state government remains strong but that everyone can contribute their ideas for the betterment of the people," he said to reporters after a meeting between PDP and PSB leaders at the PDP supreme council meeting today (July 13).

PSB president Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh, who is also state Opposition leader, agreed with Tiong on the importance of political stability, pledging that the party would work together with both the current Sarawak government and federal unity government.

PDP is part of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) which rules the state government through its 76-seat majority.

GPS is part of the unity government with Tiong serving as the current Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister.

PSB has four seats while DAP has two seats in the state assembly.
