State polls opportunity for MACC to show commitment against corruption

KOTA KINABALU: The upcoming state elections will be the perfect stage for graft busters to showcase their commitment to combat corruption, says Pakatan Harapan component Upko.

Its Youth chief Felix Joseph Saang said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should make the polls a platform in the fight against graft.

He said that this was in line with the unity government's sincerity and commitment in its mission to fight corruption.

He said the people should choose leaders who possess integrity, vision, ethics, and transparency to lead instead of leaders based on corruption or money politics.

"There is no doubt that every election, especially in rural areas, we hear many stories where money politics often take place,” he said in a statement here on Thursday (July 13).

"Therefore, I believe that the elections in the six states this time are the best opportunity to demonstrate that corrupt practices and vote-buying can be eradicated,” he added.

Saang said the MACC should remain committed and continuously monitor the elections to prevent any acts of corruption from spreading, especially during the campaign period.

He added the practice of corruption in elections not only has the potential to destroy the country but also inflicts harm and causes long-term damage to the people.
