State polls: Umno chairmen from six states set to present candidate lists to Zahid

KLANG: Umno chairmen from all the six states participating in the upcoming state polls will be meeting party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi Thursday (July 13) night to present their candidate lists.

Selangor Umno chief Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin said the six will take turns to meet Ahmad Zahid with the first meeting starting at 8.30pm.

“Selangor is the last on the list and I guess I will be meeting the president at about 10.30pm,” said Megat Zulkarnain when contacted.

The meeting is set to be held at party headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Megat Zulkarnain added that he has selected three names for every constituency that Umno will be contesting.

“And so, the president will pick one candidate for each of the constituencies from the three names I have selected after much vetting,’’ he added.

He also declined to confirm the number of seats that Umno will be battling for in Selangor, adding that he was leaving it to Ahmad Zahid to make any announcement.

To a question if he would be contesting the Gombak Setia seat, Megat Zulkarnain, who is the Gombak Umno chief, said it will only be known when the names are officially announced.

The incumbent for the Gombak Setia seat is Bersatu’s Hilman Idham, who won the constituency on a PKR ticket, but moved parties after the Sheraton Move.

Meanwhile, Selangor Umno Youth chief Datuk Imran Tamrin said Umno has been allocated not less than 11 seats.

“It should be more but I can say that it will not be less than 11 seats,’’ said Imran, who is also the incumbent Sungai Panjang assemblyman.
