STPM: Spirit of excellence runs through Melaka's 'haunted mansion' school students


MELAKA: Twenty-two candidates from Melaka's "haunted mansion" school have emerged as top scorers in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) 2022 examination.

Tun Fatimah Form Six College Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairman Mak Chee Kin said that the school had 22 candidates with a perfect 4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), the highest number among all schools in the state.

Mak said another nine candidates from the college located in Durian Daun here obtained a 3.70 CGPA and above.

"One of our students, Gee Wei Nee, received the national STPM Best Student Award, which makes us proud," he said on Thursday (July 13).

Mak said the college made a remarkable achievement this year and hoped that the Education Ministry would give priority to upgrade its facilities.

"Teacher and students have worked very hard to achieve this result although the college is in a ruinous state and lacks good facilities," he said.

On April 26, The Star highlighted that the condition of the college was bad and that it resembled a "haunted mansion".

Students witnessed windows falling apart and ceilings collapsing suddenly during classes.

The college management had made several attempts in the past year to get stakeholders to assist and provide a safe and conducive atmosphere but unfortunately nothing has been done.

The college has a dilapidated structure and is plagued by leaky pipes, water supply issues, termite infestation, an unusable basketball court, parking problems and even experiences flash floods.

The building, with 28 classrooms, was built in the 1960s and was converted from a secondary school to a Form Six college when the school faced low enrolment.
