2.4m deep sinkhole appears over night on Jalan Jelapang-Ampang in Perak


IPOH: A sinkhole has appeared at KM4.2 of FT240 or Jalan Jelapang-Ampang opposite Gunung Matsoorat here.

Perak infrastructure committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the Public Works Department received information about the sinkhole on Friday (July 14) early in the morning.

Mohammad Nizar said works to repair the hole will be conducted immediately.

"It is expected to be completed on the same day," he said when contacted.

"We have closed one lane near the hole," he said while advising motorists to adhere to the instructions of traffic controllers and signboards that have been put up along the way

According to Perak Public Works Department director Hamdan Ali, the sinkhole is believed to first appeared at about 10pm on Thursday (July 13).

"The concessionaire has conducted some temporary patchwork, but it appeared again on Friday morning.

"The hole is about 1.2msq in size and about 2.4m deep," he said, adding that repair works by the concessionaire are expected to be completed by 5pm on Friday.
