RESIDENTS and tourism players in Langkawi are urging the Federal Government to upgrade the island’s ferry service, reported Kosmo!
They expressed hope that the Transport Ministry could give priority to modernising the ferry service for the convenience of tourists, which can also help boost the island’s economy.
Resident Khairul Nisak Talib, 34, described the ferry service as the heart of Langkawi’s tourism sector, adding that it needed to be upgraded in line with current developments.
“Langkawi really needs the best ferry service that provides safety, comfort and frequency of travel.
“In Penang, there is already a new, modern and comfortable ferry service that will be operating soon but Langkawi is still being sidelined,” he said.
Hotel employee Mohammad Nabil Ukail Mohd Shukor, 25, said the ferry facilities needed to be improved, especially for the elderly and the disabled.
“Many elderly people use the ferry service, so facilities for wheelchairs, for example, need to be adequately provided,” he said.
> Harian Metro reported that twins Mohd Hamdi Mohamed Zain and Mohd Hamdan, 43, from Kampung Bandar, Machang, Kelantan, were making a name for themselves in the mobile kiosk manufacturing industry.
The brothers began to build the kiosks during the Covid-19 pandemic after they lost their source of income.
“I had to close my information technology company in Kuala Lumpur due to Covid-19. At that time, my brother moved back to Kelantan to take care of our ailing mother,” said Mohd Hamdi.
Guided by YouTube, the twins began to build a kiosk, turning the space behind their house into a temporary workshop.
“We spent RM50,000 from our savings to buy the equipment and machines needed to build the kiosk,” he said, adding that they had since received orders from customers around the country.
The brothers and their workers would take between a month and six weeks to build the kiosks, with each unit starting at RM15,000.
