PETALING JAYA: Muda has become the first party to unveil its candidates for the upcoming state elections, starting with four who will stand in Selangor.

The first batch of candidates, announced by Muda at a press conference yesterday, is led by founding member and secretary-general Amir Abd Hadi. He is slated to contest in Seri Serdang.

Muda also named Shah Alam Muda parliamentary deputy chief Syaidiyah Izzati Nur Razak Maideen, also known as Cheda Razak, in Batu Tiga.

The party’s central executive committee member R. Thanusha will be contesting the Sentosa seat, while Muda chief of staff Melanie Ting will be fielded in Bukit Antarabangsa.

Muda is also expected to announce two more batches of candidates by the end of next week.

Its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the first group of candidates had undergone a stringent vetting process to ensure that they had the quality and capability to serve as well as fight for the people.

“We are confident that if our candidates are given the mandate, we will serve as effective checks and balances to the government and as the voice of conscience for the people,” he said.

Muda is likely to face its former allies Pakatan Harapan as well as Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional in the six state elections.

Syed Saddiq, who is also the Muar MP, believes that his party can distinguish itself from the Pakatan-Barisan alliance and Perikatan by appealing to more moderate voters.
