State polls: Gagasan Rakyat ready to support unity candidates

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah is ready to send a team to help support candidates of the unity government contesting in the Aug 12 six state elections in peninsular Malaysia.

Gagasan Rakyat information chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, however, said that it would depend on whether they were needed as well as a decision of the party's supreme council.

"We clearly continue to support the leadership of the Madani Malaysia government or the unity government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"We are waiting for the next instructions to go down and give support to all the candidates representing the unity government in these six states," he told reporters in Tawau on Friday (July 14).

Gagasan Rakyat led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor is part of the seven party ruling Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) state government.

Earlier this week, Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said they will be sending campaigners to help unity candidates in Selangor.

He said they were prepared to also support candidates in the other states if needed.

Parti KDM-led Datuk Peter Anthony has also said that they were also going to assist in the campaign for candidates in Selangor.

Election Commission has set simultaneous polling for Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah for Aug 12 with nomination set for July 29.
