Tesla’s presence in Selangor signals investor confidence in current state govt, says Amirudin

KLANG: Tesla Inc’s move to set up its Malaysia head office in Selangor is a reflection of investor confidence in the administration of the state, said Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

The Selangor Mentri Besar said in a statement that Tesla’s presence in Selangor is expected to encourage more international companies involved in battery technology to invest in the state.

“It will also increase the interest of the young generation in pursuing high-tech fields, specifically in the clean energy industry,” added Amirudin.

His statement follows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s virtual meeting with Tesla chief executive officer Elon Musk on Friday (July 14) morning.

Anwar had announced after the meeting that Tesla Inc will set up operations in Selangor this year.

According to Amirudin, Tesla Inc’s investment would not only be crucial for the automobile industry but also for the adoption of clean energy batteries in public transportation industries such as rail, buses, and vans.

“This development is also in line with the state government’s aspiration of making Selangor a state with efficient 5G facilities in the Sout-East Asia region to lure more local and foreign investors that will offer high-paying jobs to Selangor residents,’’ said Amirudin.

He also said the state was prepared to facilitate Tesla Inc’s entry into Selangor to set up its headquarters, service centre and experience centre.

Amiruddin added the locations identified for the sites were in the Petaling and Sepang districts respectively and the relevant district offices and local authorities were ready to make the necessary arrangements to facilitate as well as coordinate Tesla Inc’s investment entry.
