Child killed, four injured in Johor trailer-bus accident

SEGAMAT: A 10-year-old boy was killed and four others were injured in an accident involving a trailer and a bus here.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said that the incident happened at about 7.30am on Saturday (July 15) at a traffic light junction at KM138.3 of Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban in Pekan Chaah.

"The accident is believed to have happened when the trailer failed to stop at a red light,” he said, adding that it was heading to Johor Baru from Segamat.

Supt Ahmad Zamry said that the trailer then hit the right side of the bus, which was coming out of a junction and was heading towards Segamat.

"The collision caused the death of one of the passengers on the bus while three others from the same vehicle were injured. The driver of the trailer was also injured," he said in a statement.

Supt Ahmad Zamry said the boy was believed to be sitting at the middle right side of the bus.

"He sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Chaah Clinic,” said Supt Ahmad Zamry.

"The other victims, including the bus and trailer drivers, are still receiving treatments," he added, saying that the injured victims are aged between 23 and 62.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act.

Meanwhile, Labis Fire and Rescue department operation commander Mohd Hafifie Md Sarif said that the department received a call about the incident at about 7.13am on Saturday (July 15) at Jalan Sidek, Kampung Jawa Chaah here.

"Fourteen firemen from the Yong Peng and Labis fire stations were deployed to the scene upon receiving the call. Upon arrival, we found one injured victim in the trailer and four other victims from the bus,” he said.

"They were given initial treatment at the scene before rushed to get further treatment,” added Mohd Hafifie.
