Chinese villages get RM9mil for solar-powered LED lights

PETALING JAYA: The Local Government Development Ministry (KPKT) has approved RM9.018mil for the installation of solar-powered LED lights in 120 Chinese villages.

Local Government Development Minister Nga Kor Ming said the installation of a total of 1,002 solar LED lights is expected to be completed by November.

“The solar LED lights come with a five-year warranty. This is a paradigm shift of moving towards solar panels,” Nga said after his visit to Pulau Ketam yesterday, where he announced that this Selangor village will receive 10 solar-powererd LED lights worth RM90,000.

In addition, Nga allocated more than RM1mil to the village through the Klang District Land Office and the Selangor Road Works Department to upgrade facilities.

“The RM1mil allocation for Pulau Ketam consists of RM215,000 for the repair works of concrete pavements and solid waste disposal area.

“An allocation of RM445,248 was given for the replacement of wooden walkways to concrete ones and other related works at Sungai Satu Bagan Pulau Ketam.

“The upgrade works of a main bridge connecting to Bagan Teow Chew were allocated RM352,000,” he said.

Nga was also impressed by the Pulau Ketam volunteer-based fire station, which has 25 trained first responders.

The first station was formed in 1972 and serves about 6,000 residents in the village.

“The residents here raised RM500,000 for the expansion of the fire station building. I congratulate them and I would like to approve RM20,000 under the minister’s allocation for its expansion,” he said.

“The government is practising performance-based budget allocation where councils that carry out financially viable projects, conduct cost-benefit analyses and showcase good performance, will continue to receive support from the government,” he said.
