SHAH ALAM: There will be no clashes between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional as a political pact in the upcoming Selangor polls, assures Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Amirudin said the respective coalitions would be fielding their candidates as a unity government representative in the state polls.
"There will be no question of the coalitions clashing (between candidates) because we will field our candidates from one of the coalitions.
"This is unlike what happened with the political pact between Barisan and Perikatan Nasional previously.
"So with the Barisan and Pakatan pact, no seats in the upcoming state polls will have no conflict of interest, that is my assurance, especially in Selangor,” he said in a press conference after launching the Selangor unity government machinery retreat on Saturday (July 15).
In November 2021, Barisan and Perikatan which formed a political pact at the federal level went their separate ways to contest during the Melaka state elections.
The Selangor caretaker also said the retreat provided a chance for the Pakatan and Barisan to align their election machineries.
He added that queries on coordinating the operations between the Pakatan and Barisan machineries were raised several times by the delegates during the retreat.
"We have come together today to coordinate our machineries operations better. Pakatan and Barisan have started our respective operations but here we are aligning together for the state election.
"So hopefully with this retreat today, we will provide a more organised and cooperative movement that can be established at the grassroots level and we will face the election as a team that is intact," he said while adding the manifesto was also discussed during the retreat.
Amirudin also said there was no question of confusing the voters as Barisan and Pakatan would continue to field their candidates using respective coalition logos.
He also said that the Pakatan and Barisan manifesto and candidates for Selangor polls were expected to be revealed on July 25.
"Right now, we are still in the process of revising (the candidates). What is more important is that we are unanimous in using the candidates’ winnability as our basic formula to gain a majority in the state election," he said.
