Once rivals, now allies: Jamal and Ng Suee Lim bury hatchet

SEKINCHAN: Only in politics can the scenario change faster than the weather.

Testimony to this was Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos singing praises of his former arch-enemy incumbent assemblyman Ng Suee Lim.

"I was born in Sekinchan and have been here all through.

"I can vouch that Sekinchan has developed manifold under YB Ng Suee Lim," said Jamal.

He reminisced how he and Ng used to "whack" each whenever there was an opportunity such as during election campaigns.

"For the last general election, for instance, YB Ng had put up many structures for billboards which left no space for Barisan's posters.

"So that night I put up our posters overlapping his billboards," he added.

Earlier in his speech, Ng also recalled the time when he and Jamal were political rivals, and used to constantly fight.

"I used to attack him during my ceramah and so did he.

"He also used to 'kacau' my campaign material during elections.

"Those were part and parcel of our political rivalry that are all in the past now," he said, adding he and Jamal have both buried the hatchet.

"How long are we going to keep fighting just because of our history?

"That's why we have decided to put the past behind us and keep moving forward for the sake of a better future for our next generation and nation," said Ng.

Jamal also said he did not protest outside the state government building any more like in the past, because he had no grouses against Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added Amirudin was a much better mentri besar than his predecessor Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.

"So, there was no reason for me to carry out any protests," said Jamal narrating how he had protested clad just in a towel and had also brought a coffin there during Azmin's tenure as mentri besar.

Jamal said all that was in the past now and Barisan and Pakatan was putting the past behind and moving forward.

He also thanked Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin, who was also at the event for settling the law suit, she had initiated against him out of court.

"Thank you very much," added Jamal.

Yeo, who was Bakri MP at that time, had filed a RM5mil defamation suit against Jamal in 2017 for alleging that she had mishandled Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) funds.

The matter was settled out of court after Yunos tendered a public apology to her in early 2021.
