DENGKIL: Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) candidate for Dengkil, Dr Darren Ong Chung Lee, vows to improve facilities and infrastructure in the town, as well as look into a solution for long-standing settlers’ land matters.
The 36-year-old mathematics professor said the development in Dengkil was growing rapidly but not in tandem with the infrastructure and facilities.
“The health clinic is overcrowded. Over the years, the population has increased but the health facility has not been upgraded.
“Senior citizens are finding it hard to seek treatment there,” he said.
Other common problems in the area such as floods and faulty streetlights also need to be resolved, he added.
“There are also problems that have been pending for decades such as issues related to settlers in Kampung Sri Tanjung. They have been fighting for the rights to their land since 2000.
“Many politicians from the ruling government have come and promised to settle the matter but it has not been solved.
“Dengkil also needs better public transportation and connectivity to the surrounding townships,” he said at a press conference at Dengkil PSM branch office, after PSM chairman Dr Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj made the announcement on his candidacy.
Ong took an oath to not use racial politics to win votes and declared his assets valued at RM850,000 as of June.
Ong was born in Kuching but his family moved to Selangor in 1998.
He has been living in Dengkil since 2016 and currently works in Xiamen University Malaysia.
