Scam victim arrested for lodging fake police report

KUALA LUMPUR: A victim of a scam was arrested for lodging a false police report claiming that police personnel had extorted money from her.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that the police had received a police report on June 22 from a woman who had claimed that two people had introduced themselves as policemen and demanded RM25,000 after accusing her of being involved in a case.

He added that discrepancies were found in the case and the woman was subsequently arrested at the Ampang Jaya police headquarters on Wednesday (July 12) for making a fake report.

ACP Mohd Azam added that the original police report and three bank receipts dated June 20 were seized.

“Questioning conducted led to the discovery that the suspect had filed the fake report because she chose not to be honest with her husband regarding the pawning of gold on June 20. It is believed that the money gained was then paid to a party that we believe to be scammers,” he said.
