Biker dies in crash after hitting dog in Inanam

KOTA KINABALU: A 24-year-old man has died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a dog before he was run over by his friend who was riding alongside him on Jalan Tuaran in Inanam early Sunday (July 16).

The victim, Aidimen Leminggu, was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene following the 4.20am accident.

The second motorcyclist, a 19-year-old, suffered injuries to both his hands.

The stray dog did not survive the crash.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said initial investigations showed that Aidimen and his friend were heading home after finishing work in Kolombong.

He said based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from a nearby gas station, both motorcyclists were in the middle lane with Aidimen slightly ahead of his friend.

He said the victim lost control of his motorcycle and skidded into the right lane of the road after hitting the dog.

His friend was unable to avoid Aidimen who was lying on the road.

ACP Mohd Zaidi said the victim's body was sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a post-mortem.

He said police were conducting their investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
