Johor to build at least 30,000 affordable houses in next five years, says MB

JOHOR BARU: Johor wants to build at least 30,000 Johor Affordable Housing (RMMJ) units for its people in the next five years, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said he has set a new target for the state government in order to provide the people with an opportunity to own a home.

“Previously, the state government’s target was to build 21,702 units of affordable houses in the next five years but I have now given a new challenge - to build 30,000 units.

“I think it is achievable as there is a high demand for RMMJ units and I want the focus to not just be on Johor Baru.

“More RMMJ units should be built in other districts such as Batu Pahat, Muar, Pontian, Segamat, Tangkak and Kota Tinggi,” he said in his speech before handing over the keys to 15 new homeowners of RMMJ (Type C) units at the Senibong Indah Apartments, Tanjung Senibong here on Sunday (July 16).

Onn Hafiz added 222 units at the apartments, built by Crescendo Corporation Bhd, have been completed and handed over to its owners.

Each unit is about 93.1 sqm and comes with three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
