IPOH: Practise the concept of "Tabayyun" to help maintain the stability of the country and harmony among the people, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In his speech that was read by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof when launching the National Month and Fly Jalur Gemilang 2023 celebrations at the Sultan Azlan Shah Roundabout at Meru Raya here on Sunday (July 16), the Prime Minister said the practice can help prevent acts of defamation, thus maintaining peace and harmony among the multiracial society.

Tabayyun is the Arabic word for verification or validation of truthfulness.

"A borderless world has made sharing and spreading of information quick.

"What is right and wrong are mixed in the virtual world and sometimes it causes conflicts that can threaten the peace and harmony of our multiracial society," he said.

"It is important to have the practice of checking and verifying (information) first before spreading it to others," he added.

"This practice is relevant to ensure the dissemination of information, especially on social media, can be done with full prudence and integrity.

"Let us all adopt this practice," he added.
