JOHOR BARU: The continuous cooperation between the Malaysian and Singaporean governments has resulted in cutting down the traffic congestion time at the Causeway and Second Link by at least two hours, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The Johor Mentri Besar said this was done through continuous engagements and discussions involving the government agencies in both countries to solve the longstanding traffic problems faced by some 450,000 daily users at both border crossings.
“About 300,000 commuters - who have to get up at 4am to head into Singapore for work - pass through the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex daily.

“I am thankful that we have been able to disperse the traffic effectively.
“I am confident that with the continuous cooperation from all parties (involved), we can help to cut down the traffic congestion time by at least another hour by the end of the year,” he said in his speech before handing over the keys to new homeowners at an affordable housing project at Tanjung Senibong here on Sunday (July 16).
Onn Hafiz had on June 22 said all issues plaguing the CIQs at BSI and Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) in Iskandar Puteri, were expected to be mitigated by the end of September.
He said the state government also remained committed to improving Johor’s connectivity, especially in improving services at the two CIQ complexes.
The Johor-Singapore Causeway is currently one of the busiest border crossings in the world.
