Kuala langat: Kamaruzaman Denan is beaming with pride as the daily sales of his homemade coffee are steadily rising.
The 44-year-old native of Kampung Kundang here said the Selangor government played a role in his success by selecting him as a participant in the “Kita Ke Kampung #produkkampung4u” programme last February.
He received guidance, particularly on marketing strategy, and learnt to promote his product, Kopi Kampung Kundang, or Kopi 3K, through the programme.
Kamaruzaman said his monthly gross sales have increased from roughly RM20,000 to an average of RM30,000.
“Previously, I sold the coffee powder at morning markets and sundry shops around my village, but now I get orders from Batu Caves and Gombak,” he told Bernama.
He, however, said the sale of his coffee was still limited because he packs the product manually.
“I am raising funds to purchase a packaging machine so that I will be able to obtain the Food Safety is the Responsibility of the Industry (MeSTI) certification and sell my product to a larger market,” he added.
Meanwhile, state rural development, village traditions, Malay customs, culture and heritage committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah said Kamaruzaman is one of the rural entrepreneurs who saw an increase in sales via the programme, which has been implemented since 2021.
He said the state government allocates RM700,000 each year to guide 300 selected rural entrepreneurs domestically and internationally.
“This programme is implemented to assist entrepreneurs in promoting their products and to guide them into improving the quality of the goods produced, particularly in terms of packaging,” he said.
Borhan said he received positive feedback from the participants.
