PASIR GUDANG: A special meeting will be held on Tuesday (July 18) to discuss the pending project of a centre for the Indian community to perform their last rites in Tanjung Langsat.

Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman said the meeting will be chaired by state executive councillor K. Raven Kumar and will include other state MIC representatives.

"For now, I don't want to comment too much on this issue as we will have a meeting on Tuesday where we will discuss more on the matter.

"The meeting will also include state MIC leaders, including its chief R. Vidyananthan. Also attending the meeting are representatives from MBPG, state government and the Johor Mentri Besar's secretary," he said.

He said this when met after launching the inaugural ceremony of SJ Holdings Berhad’s centralised sewerage treatment plant at Jalan Keluli 11 here on Sunday (July 16).

Asman Shah said this when asked to comment on the RM1.3mil project in Tanjung Langsat that has been pending since November last year.

The mayor also denied claims that MBPG had been reluctant to provide information on the progress of the project.

"In fact, I have met with Raven Kumar at many programmes but he did not bring this matter up to me," he said.

On Saturday (July 15), The Star reported that Vidyananthan urged Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to intervene in the project that has been stalled since last year.

“Initially, a total of RM1mil has been allocated for the project. MBPG, which was tasked with carrying out the project, has asked for another RM300,000.

“The Mentri Besar has also given the extra allocation. What is surprising now is that until today, no action has been taken with regard to this project.

"When we try to get information from the MBPG mayor and Mentri Besar's office, we feel like we have been pushed around,” said Vidyananthan.
