KUALA LUMPUR: The Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) Hospital's western medicine department has received the green light from the Health Ministry to commence operations, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
"With both the Chinese Medicine Department and the Western Hospital now operating, we aim to extend assistance to more individuals," said the MCA president.
"MCA has successfully established two universities and a specialised hospital. We are determined to actively pursue our mission of serving the community and bringing about benefits for the people," he said after opening the Selangor MCA convention at Wisma MCA on Sunday (July 16).
UTAR Hospital is a teaching and community hospital at the UTAR Kampar Campus in Perak.
It provides medical care and services in Western medicine and Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM), including Chinese, Ayurvedic, and traditional Malay medicine.
The project comprises an initial phase of a hospital complex with 250 beds for Western medicine and 100 beds for TCM, and a future step of 250.
The project will include facilities for out-patient and in-patient treatment, diagnostics and treatment, medical and non-medical support, research and education, staff, student and administrative centres.
The hospital's traditional and complementary medicine (TCM) centre started operating in April last year. The centre has so far received more than 20,000 patient visits with patients coming from Penang, Kedah, Selangor, Johor and some east coast states.
