3R investigation into Sanusi’s case almost done, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: The 3R (royalty, religion, race) investigation into the case involving Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is almost 90% complete, says Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

"The investigation paper (IP) is being completed by the Bukit Aman CID Special Investigation Unit (USJT) based on the information that has been gathered," said the Inspector-General of Police.

"It includes statements from witnesses as well as his (Muhammad Sanusi's) statement.

"As soon as the IP is completed, we will refer the matter to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action," he said when contacted on Monday (July 17).

The IGP said the police are working hard to complete the investigation.

"I am satisfied with the investigation process, including the cooperation of Muhammad Sanusi, who had his statement recorded on July 14," he said.

Razarudin also confirmed that other IPs involving PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng are almost completed,

Muhammad Sanusi, who is Jeneri assemblyman and PAS national election director, issued an apology to Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah on Friday with an explanation of how his speech was "spun" to defame him.

He said a letter was sent to the Selangor palace as he needed to explain his side of the story and claimed that parts of his speech on July 11 in the state were "deliberately twisted".

Police reports were lodged against Muhammad Sanusi for allegedly belittling the Sultan of Selangor for appointing Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as Mentri Besar.

However, de facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said an apology was not a legal defence.

Sultan Sharafuddin also decreed that the issue was not yet resolved despite Muhammad Sanusi's apology.
