Body of missing fisherman found off Tawau


KOTA KINABALU: The body of a fisherman, who was reported missing in Tawau waters on Sunday (July 16), has been found.

The victim, in his 30s, was suspected to have fallen into the sea after his fishing boat was found at Batu Payung beach.

The Fire and Rescue Department said his remains were found 0.8 nautical miles southeast of Kampung Muhibbah at 3.34pm Monday (July 17) by the search team comprising the marine police and other agencies.

“Other agencies involved were the Navy and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).

“The body has been handed over to the police for further action.

“The operation ended at 4.45pm,” said a department spokesman.
