Cops seize drugs worth over RM14mil in four raids

KUALA LUMPUR: Some RM14.4mil worth of drugs were seized in four raids in the Klang Valley, says Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din.

The Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) director said three men aged between 32 and 61 were also arrested in the raids conducted on July 13.

"We seized 56kg of methamphetamine, 20kg of ketamine and 154.3kg of ecstasy worth a total RM14.4mil,” said Comm Mohd Kamarudin.

"The suspects detained were the syndicate's transporter, storekeeper and coordinator," he added at a press conference at the KL police headquarters on Monday (July 17).

He said the suspects have been remanded until Thursday (July 20) to assist the investigation.

"We believe the drugs came from a neighbouring country but we are still investigating. The syndicate has been operating since early this year," he added.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin then said that the syndicate also catered to the market in Sabah and Sarawak.

"Investigations showed that the syndicate placed the drugs in detergent packages before sending them to Sabah and Sarawak via courier. We will track down the remnants of the syndicate," he said.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said that assets belonging to the syndicate worth RM389,166 were also seized, including a BMW and a Lexus.

"The drugs seized could have been supplied to 861,335 drug users. One of the suspects had nine prior cases in their criminal record, and three tested negative for drugs," he said.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said he hoped society will continue to supply information to the police regarding drug-related activities.

"Those with information can contact the NCID hotline at 012-2087222.
