Five Sabah civil servants arrested for allegedly making false claims worth over RM60,000

KOTA KINABALU: Five state government officers, who allegedly made false claims on transfer costs to various districts, have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The state civil servants – four men and a woman – are believed to have received a total of RM61,000, sources said.

The source said the suspects, aged from 30 to 50, were arrested at the Sabah MACC office here between 10am and 12.30pm Monday (July 17) after giving their statements.

According to the source, the five suspects are believed to have submitted a transport company's receipts for the delivery of household goods and vehicles related to their transfers. However, service was never provided.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S.Karunanithy confirmed the arrest and said that the suspects were being investigated for using false receipts to make their claims under Section 18 of the MACC Act.

He said all the suspects have been detained for 24 hours for further investigations and did not rule out the possibility that MACC will be making follow-up arrests.

He said the five suspects will be charged in the Special Corruption Court in Kota Kinabalu on Tuesday (July 17).
