M-cyclist dies after knocking into dog as friend crashes into him

KOTA KINABALU: A motorcyclist died after crashing into a dog in Jalan Tuaran, Inanam, here.

Aidimen Leminggu, 24, fell off his bike after the crash and was then hit by his friend who was riding slightly behind him.

He was pronounced dead by medical officers at the scene following the 4.20am accident yesterday, while his 19-year-old friend injured both his hands.

The stray dog also died.

Kota Kinabalu City police chief Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said initial investigations showed that Aidimen and his friend were heading home after work in Kolombong. He said that based on CCTV footage obtained at a nearby gas station, both bikers were moving in the middle lane with Aidimen slightly ahead of his friend’s motorcycle.

He also said the victim lost control of his bike after hitting a dog and skidded into the right lane of the road. His friend did not have time to stop or avoid Aidimen who was lying in the middle of the lane, he added.

ACP Mohd Zaidi said the victim’s body was sent to the forensic unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for an autopsy.

He said police are investigating the incident under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
