GEORGE TOWN: Penang DAP will submit its list of proposed candidates for the coming state elections in the next few days, says Chow Kon Yeow.
The Penang DAP chairman said the state committee would finalise the list for submission to the selection committee this week.
"Then they can make the final decision on the candidates, which will be announced before nomination day. The process is ongoing," he said during a press conference held after officiating the completion of the Anson Road food complex along Anson Road on Monday (July 17).
When asked about DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke's statement that several incumbent assemblymen from DAP would not be named as candidates, Chow said the decision was up to the central committee.
"The decision is up to them and not the state (DAP). So we cannot announce anything," he said.
Asked if there would be changes in the state executive committee, Chow said this would be a step-by-step process.
"What he (Loke) means is that there will be incumbents who will not be suggested as candidates.
"Other issues were not raised. It is still in the process, I will answer when I can," he said.
On Sunday (July 16), Loke said several incumbent assemblymen from DAP will not be named as candidates for the upcoming Penang election as part of the party's renewal process.
"Do not think of it as being dropped but rather as a party renewal process," he said.
