State polls: Negri Pakatan in the dark over Lenggeng seat, says Aminuddin

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan is in the dark over which party will be contesting the Lenggeng seat, says Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.

He said this is because it has not received any indication from its presidential council, adding that he is in no position to comment as long as no official announcement was made on the matter.

"What we know is that two parties are vying for the seat. In fact, it was already announced earlier that the Pakatan and Barisan Nasional leaderships will decide on this,” said the state Pakatan chief.

"So, till the chairman makes the announcement, there is nothing I can say," he added when met after presenting awards to the state's women's hockey team.

On Saturday (July 15), Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan announced that Barisan will be contesting 17 seats in the state election.

These include the 16 seats it won in the last general election and Lenggeng, which was won by Parti Amanah Negara.

A day earlier (July 14), state Amanah chief Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman refuted talk that the party had agreed to this.

He said Amanah is set to defend the Lenggeng, Paroi and Klawang seats, which it won in the 2018 general election.

Aminuddin said there had been no discussion on the matter and that party president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu had also recently launched the election machinery in all three constituencies.

There are 36 seats in the Negri Sembilan assembly. In GE14, Pakatan won 20 while Barisan bagged the remaining 16.

Of Pakatan's 20 seats, DAP won 11, PKR (six) and Amanah (three).

Aminuddin said the state Pakatan would accept whatever decision made by the leadership.

"Like I said, I can't say anything now. Maybe they (Amanah) have been offered another seat. I don't know. Also, we have to see this in a bigger context. We should look at the elections in all six states, not only one," he added.
