State polls: Pakatan, Barisan must play to their strengths to achieve victory, says Anwar

BUTTERWORTH: The Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional alliance needs to use the differences in their respective grassroots strengths to ensure victory in the six state elections on Aug 12, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan chairman said Barisan especially Umno has strong grassroots in the villages or rural areas while DAP's grassroots strength was in urban areas.

He said as for PKR, the party has grassroots strength in mixed areas.

“If Pakatan-Barisan has a powerful strategy by gathering the strength of each grass root, in the future, no one can shake us,” added Anwar who is also the Prime Minister.

“The condition is that we have to mobilize all our energy,” said Anwar when he was speaking at the launch of the Jelajah Perpaduan Madani Negeri Pulau Pinang at the expo site in Seberang Jaya near here on Sunday (July 16) night.

Anwar who is also the PKR president said that he was confident that the combination of Pakatan and Barisan in Penang would book the history of extraordinary people's support for the unity government in the upcoming state election.

He explained that he was amazed to see the rise of the people of Penang and was confident that they would elect a state government with a proven record under the leadership of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

Among those attending the event were Chow, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is also the Umno president, Transport Minister Anthony Loke who is also the DAP secretary-general, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mahamad Sabu who is also the Parti Amanah Negara president, DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, Penang Umno Liason Committee chairman Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzir along with several other leaders from Pakatan and Barisan.
