Two arrested over death of man in rented room

JOHOR BARU: Two foreigners have been arrested in connection with the death of a 37-year-old man in Taman Desa Cemerlang.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said police received a report of a fight involving foreign men at 11.15pm on Saturday.

“We found an unconscious foreign man inside the premises that had been converted into a rented room in Taman Desa Cemerlang.

“The man was covered in blood and pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

Initial investigations revealed that a fight had broken out among the three men when the deceased provoked the two suspects who were drunk, he said.

“The fight led to the victim being slashed on the right side of his neck,” he added.

Supt Mohd Sohaimi said that after the incident at 12.10am, police arrested two foreign men aged 39 and 40 near the area.

“Background checks revealed that both suspects have no prior criminal records.

“We seized three retractable blades with bloodstains and a bottle of liquor,” he said.

The victim’s body was brought to the Sultan Ismail Hospital for a post-mortem, he said, adding that both suspects are under remand until July 22.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
