KUALA LUMPUR: Police cleaned out a syndicate transporting drugs inside detergent packages, seizing over 230kg of drugs worth RM14.4mil and arresting three men.

Bukit Aman Narcotic Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the men, aged between 32 and 61, were detained during raids conducted in the city, Cheras and Klang on July 13.

“We seized 56kg of methamphetamine, 20kg of ketamine and 154.3kg of ecstasy worth a total RM14.4mil.

“Those detained were the syndicate’s transporter, storekeeper and coordinator,” he told a press conference at the KL police headquarters yesterday.

The suspects have been remanded until July 20 for further investigation.

“We believe that the supply of drugs came from a neighbouring country but we are still investigating,” he said, adding that the syndicate had been operating since early this year.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin said besides Klang Valley, the syndicate also catered to users in Sabah and Sarawak.

“Investigations showed that the syndicate hid the drugs in detergent packs before sending these to Sabah and Sarawak via courier. We will track down the remnants of the syndicate,” he said.

Several assets, including a BMW and a Lexus, belonging to the syndicate worth RM389,166 were also seized.

“The narcotics seized could have been supplied to 861,335 drug users.

“One of the suspects has nine prior criminal records. All three tested negative for drugs,” he said.

Comm Mohd Kamarudin urged the community to continue to supply information on drug-related activities by contacting its hotline at 012-208 7222.
