Be ready to undergo a migration of mind and culture, says Perak Ruler

IPOH: Muslims must be ready to undergo a migration of the mind and culture in order to understand and interpret contemporary issues in various dimensions, says Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah.

The Perak Ruler added that Muslims will be empowered to tackle and master the current situation through such migration, especially when it comes to the technological revolution.

“The increasingly complex challenges necessitate a change of mindset and cultural adaptation to meet the demands of the time while staying true to the principle of monotheism (tauhid) to avoid deviating from the true interpretation of life.

“Hijrah or migration is a form of jihad and those who migrate in the path of Allah will attain success and a better life,” added Sultan Nazrin during his opening speech at the state-level Maal Hijrah celebration at Casuarina@Meru here on Wednesday (July 19).

Sultan Nazrin added that the migration of mind requires one to break free from ignorance and comfort zones.

“It requires courage to explore the knowledge, skills, mediums and methods in living with the needs of the time," he said.

Sultan Nazrin added that a mind that is eager for progress, is wise and rational, liberated and not subservient as well as unafraid of change is essential for a successful migration.

“Cultural migration involves being willing to leave behind obsolete and decayed cultures and embracing a more dynamic culture that reflects a noble character, discipline, dignity, honesty, sincerity and adheres to the Islamic principles of values,” he said.

He added that migration is not as easy as it may seem, as it requires knowledge as a foundation.

“Renewal in accordance with divine guidance does not occur without guidance. But, through Allah’s mercy, a mujaddid (reformer) will be sent to help the community to renew their lives with a fresh perspective that aligns with the current situation," said Sultan Nazrin.

“The community cannot evade the changes occurring as change is a natural phenomenon. The community must be prepared at all times to face change, for it is a decree of Allah that will inevitably happen," he added.

He said the world and everything in it is subject to change, including approaches, perspectives, visions, systems, concepts and theories

“Hence, migration is a manifestation of the need for renewal, aligning with the changes in civilisation and time,” added Sultan Nazrin.
