KOTA KINABALU: A cleaner going on her daily routine saw what seemed to be a doll amid some sewerage, but it turned out to be a human foetus.

She was preparing to clear a trash trap at the sewerage plant at a residential area in Inanam near here on Monday morning when she made the discovery, said Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Zaidi Abdullah.

He said the cleaner immediately got the foetus out as the waste water was running quite strong then.

She was worried that the foetus would be washed away, he added.

ACP Zaidi said the woman informed her superior about the find and a police report was lodged.

He said that policemen and a team from the Women and Children’s Hospital in Likas arrived at the scene and pronounced the foetus dead.

Those with information are urged to contact Insp Hatikah Ahmad at 016-8337243 to help investigations into the case related to concealing the birth of a child by disposing of its body.
