Rubber tapper dies due to suspected snake bite in Keningau


KOTA KINABALU: A rubber tapper was found dead with suspected snake bite wounds at a plantation in Sabah’s Keningau district.

The 36-year-old victim was found by lifeless by villagers who then alerted the police of the discovery at Kampung Bunang Ulu Sook.

Keningau Police Chief Deputy Supt Nor Rafidah Kasim said a team was deployed to the area following the call at 8am last July 13.

She said the victim was lying on the ground with a grass cutting machine not far from him.

He was believed to have gone to the plantation to tap rubber as well as trim grass there the day before.

“A check found some blackish red marks on his body which we suspect to be bite wounds from a venomous animal,” she said, when contacted on Wednesday (July 19).

The incident was classified as a sudden death, DSP Nor Rafidah added.

She said the body was brought to the Keningau hospital for an autopsy.
