A FOLK art school has been closed down for delays in paying its rent, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Akademi Kesenian Sebasthiyar was started in May 1990 in Ipoh by folk artist and teacher Iruthayam Sebasthiyar.

In 2009, it was allowed to occupy a plot of land near a government quarters building in Jalan Sungai Pari with the help of then state MIC leader Tan Sri S. Veerasingam.

The school has been paying a monthly rent of RM200, but it fell behind due to unavoidable reasons.

The land office issued an evacuation notice early this month, asking the academy to evacuate the premises within two weeks.

> The girls’ field hockey team of SJK (T) Ladang Yong Peng won the silver medal at a district-level tournament, Malaysia Nanban reported.
