RM4.3mil worth of drugs seized, four nabbed by Johor police

JOHOR BARU: Police detained four men and seized drugs worth RM4.3mil during Ops Khas in three different locations in Kluang.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the four were arrested in a double-storey rented terrace house on Monday (July 17) between 6.20pm and 9.45pm.

He said the suspects aged 22 to 30, tested positive for drugs and one of them had a criminal record.

"They have been operating in the house since April 2023 this year by turning it into a store to keep the drugs," Comm Kamarul Zaman said in a press conference at the Johor police headquarters on Thursday (July 20).

He said that the drugs, believed to be brought in from a neighbouring country, would be repackaged into drink sachets and milk tea packages.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said the seized drugs were 54.33kg of ecstasy powder, Erimin 5 pills (2.21kg), ecstasy pills (1.96kg), ketamine (1.22kg) and 346g of ganja.

"The repackaged drugs are priced between RM150 and RM200 each meant to be distributed to entertainment outlets for the domestic market and able to cater to 202,042 drug addicts," he said.

Comm Kamarul Zaman said police also seized six cars, jewellery and cash worth RM455,339.

He said the suspects have been remanded for seven days from July 18 until July 24 and the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Separately, Comm Kamarul Zamam said police would deploy 750 personnel members during the final of the 2023 FA Cup between JDT and KL City.

The match will take place on Saturday (July 22) at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Gelang Patah, Johor.

"We would like to advise supporters from both teams to refrain from bringing prohibited items into the stadium on the match day," he said.
