Search ops mounted for senior citizen mauled by croc in Tawau


KOTA KINABALU: A search and rescue operation has been activated for a 60-year-old man believed to have been mauled by a crocodile along a river in the Tawau district.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, it received the alert from the district police at 7.03am today (July 20) on the incident that occurred at Kampung Sungai Mas Mas-Nasip Kita.

A team from the Tawau fire station was sent to the scene 70km away and the police are also on site to offer assistance.

“According to the witness report, the victim is believed to have been attacked by the reptile when he went to his boat around 4am on Wednesday (July 19),” said a department spokesman.

“The team conducted the search assisted by the police via surface searching method on the boat within a 3km search radius (from the scene) along the river,” he added.

The spokesman said the operation was postponed at 6pm and will be continued on Friday (July 21).
