First gaming outlet in Perlis shuts doors after licence expires

KANGAR: A numbers forecast outlet on Jalan Bukit Lagi here ceased operations on Monday (July 17) after its operating licence expired, making it the first outlet to do so under the PAS-led Perlis government.

An online portal reported on Friday (July 21) that the Kangar Municipal Council has notified six gaming outlets in the state that their operating licences would not be renewed.

The six are three in Kangar, two in Padang Besar and one in Kuala Perlis.

A local Chinese daily reported that the numbers forecast operator had submitted an appeal but local authority president Norazlan Yahaya had said the state will not change its stand of not renewing the operating licences.

Perlis is the neighbouring state of PAS-led Kedah, which had already shut down all its gaming outlets since January this year.

Kelantan and Terengganu imposed similar gaming outlet bans in 1990 and 2020, respectively.
