KUALA LUMPUR: The newly set-up Malaysia-China Friendship and Mutual Aid Association (MCFAMAA) paid a visit to the Chinese Embassy here with an aim to improve people-to-people exchanges between both nations.
At a roundtable meeting during the visit on Wednesday (July 19), both sides exchanged views and ideas on efforts to forge stronger bonds with each other.
According to a MCFAMAA statement, its advisor Datuk Seri Michael Chong also highlighted the achievements in helping Chinese citizens over the past 29 years.
“The assistance has been instrumental in resolving family disputes and civil litigation, contributing to the welfare of the Chinese community,” it said.
While conveying his gratitude for the crucial assistance provided to its citizens residing in Malaysia, China Ambassador Ouyang Yujing has called for the association to set up branches nationwide in order to reach out to the Chinese in every part of the country.
Also present was former deputy Perak police chief Datuk Goh Boon Keng, who is also the association’s deputy president.
He shared a recent case of five Chinese students involved in disputes over agency fees.
Goh has suggested for the police forces of both nations to enhance cross-border communication to streamline support and resolution processes for such cases.
The visit marked a significant milestone for the association in strengthening ties with the Chinese Embassy, the statement read.
“With the embassy's steadfast backing, the association is poised to expand its outreach and positively impact the lives of Chinese nationals across the nation,” it added.
