Johor govt plans to turn Simpang Renggam into a logistics hub

SIMPANG RENGGAM: The state government is planning to develop Simpang Renggam into a logistics hub, says Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

The Johor Mentri Besar said the town's strategic location, coupled with the easy accessibility, makes it an ideal location for a logistics hub.

"Simpang Renggam's location is very strategic, it is not far from Singapore and Johor Baru. At the same time, it is also not far from Kuala Lumpur.

"On top of that, it is also easy to access as one could enter the town through the Machap, Ayer Hitam or Simpang Renggam interchanges (via the North-South Expressway).

"As such, we have started discussing with the Simpang Renggam District Council president and the district officer to see if there is an area suitable for a logistics hub," he told a press conference after attending a meet-and-greet session with the people at Dewan Terbuka Taman Perling here on Friday (July 21).

Onn Hafiz said a proposal for the logistics hub had been drafted.

"We have come out with the initial proposal but obviously, it is just the first draft.

"The matter needs to be studied thoroughly before any decision can be made at the state executive council meeting. Hopefully, by the end of the year, we could have something more concrete.

"It is in the pipeline but at the same time, I want to make sure that basic things, such as roads, could be repaired and upgraded first," he said.
