Pakatan likely to contest 44 seats in Selangor, Barisan 12

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan is expected to contest 44 seats in Selangor while Barisan Nasional will contest 12.

The 12 seats speculated to be contested by Barisan candidates are Dusun Tua, Semenyih, Gombak Setia, Batang Kali, Kuang, Jeram, Sijangkang, Dengkil, Sungai Air Tawar, Selat Kelang, Sungai Burong and Sungai Panjang.

The Gombak Setia seat was won by Hilman Idham in the 2018 General Election (GE14) under the Pakatan ticket who is now in Bersatu.

Pakatan's Dusun Tua seat, which was held by DAP's Edry Faizal Yusof, will go to Barisan.

"At least one or two incumbent seats (of Pakatan) will be given to Barisan after last-minute negotiations," said a source.

In Penang, Barisan will get most of the Malay heartland seats such as Teluk Bahang, Penaga, Bertam, Sungai Dua, Permatang Berangan and Sungai Acheh.

Sungai Acheh, which was won by Pakatan in GE14 will go to Barisan, which will also be keeping its incumbent seats like Sungai Dua and Permatang Berangan, while the other three were held by Perikatan Nasional.

Another source from Penang, meanwhile, confirmed that Barisan would contest six seats while Pakatan will be running for 34 in its bastion state.

Barisan, will be taking the lead in Terengganu and Kelantan where it is expected to contest 26 and 31 seats respectively.

Pakatan, on the other hand, will contest six seats in Terengganu and 14 in Kelantan.

Barisan will be announcing its candidates on Friday (July 21) while Pakatan component party PKR will be making the announcement a day later on July 22.
