KOTA BARU: Even though campaigning has yet to officially kick off for the six state elections, Kelantan police have already received reports of vandalism against party flags.
State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said the incidents were reported to have occurred in Tumpat and Kuala Krai.
“In addition, there were four similar incidents in Kota Baru.
“We received reports of flags and banners being taken out, pulled down and damaged,” he said in a statement yesterday.
He added that the police viewed such incidents seriously and will track down those responsible.
Muhamad Zaki said the cases were being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
He also reminded all parties involved in the upcoming state elections to conduct their campaigns in a responsible manner and to comply with rules, laws and guidelines.
“Stern action will be taken against any party engaging in provocation or touching issues related to race, religion and royalty (3R).
“The public is reminded not to upload any post on social media or spread news that could pose a threat to the country’s peace and harmony, especially on 3R issues,” reported Bernama.
In KUALA LUMPUR, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain reminded all police personnel carrying out their duty in the coming state elections to be professional and rational while in the field.
He said they should also be smart in controlling their emotions when facing any provocation.
“I believe everyone in the police force is fully prepared to give the best service during the state elections.
“While we are focused on carrying out our duties, our health and safety must be a priority as well,” he said in his speech at Bukit Aman’s monthly assembly here yesterday.
The IGP previously said 9,602 additional police officers and personnel will be deployed to assist in the state elections on Aug 12 in Selangor, Penang, Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu.
