Sarawak Governor Taib in good health overseas

KUCHING: Sarawak Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud has confirmed that he is currently overseas and in good health.

He said he had been advised by doctors to rest and would return to Sarawak soon after getting the green light from his doctors.

"At this moment, I am well and still abroad.

"I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to all Sarawakians who have prayed for my health and well-being," Taib said in his Sarawak Day message issued by Astana Negeri here on Friday (July 21).

Last month, the Astana had issued a statement dispelling rumours surrounding Taib's health, saying that he was well and in good stead.

It said all viral and unverified news regarding the Governor's health were fake and untrue, following social media messages claiming that Taib was ill or had passed away.

Meanwhile, Taib said the Sarawak Day celebration was a meaningful occasion to recognise the continuing efforts of Sarawakians to develop the state.

"I am confident that under the leadership of Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak will be able to achieve its target of becoming a developed state by 2030," he said.

He also called on Sarawakians to maintain unity in diversity, peace and harmony as this was the key to the state's success.

Sarawak Day, which falls on July 22, commemorates the state's attainment of self-governance from the British in 1963.
