KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional's electoral outing in Negri Sembilan is set to be a family affair, with Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad's son and wife making their political debut.

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced at the World Trade Centre (WTC) Kuala Lumpur on Friday night (July 21) that Mohd Isa's son Mohd Najib, who is Port Dickson Umno deputy chief, will be contesting in Bagan Pinang.

The former Negri mentri besar's wife Puan Sri Bibi Sharliza Mohd Khaled, who is Negri Wanita Umno chief, will contest in Juasseh.

Mohd Isa rejoined Umno in May this year after quitting the party in September 2018 to contest in the Port Dickson by-election as an independent candidate after he was not fielded as a Barisan candidate.

However, Mohd Isa lost the by-election after garnering a mere 4,230 votes in a seven-cornered fight, with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim victorious after winning 31,016 votes.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister and Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan will be defending his Rantau seat,

Negri Umno chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias will be making a comeback at Pertang, a seat he held from 2013 until 2018.

Barisan will contest 17 seats in Negri.

There are a total of 36 seats in the Negri state assembly and Pakatan Harapan is expected to contest the remaining 19 seats.

In Terengganu, Barisan will field two former mentris besar and a former deputy minister.

Former mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said will be contesting in Kijal while Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman will be fielded in Seberang Takir.

Former deputy minister Datuk Seri Jailani Johari will contest in Ajil.

They are among the 27 candidates that Barisan will field in Terengganu.

This was announced by Umno secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

Earlier, Barisan announced that it will be contesting 108 seats in the polls taking place in six states.

Meanwhile in Kelantan, Barisan will field newcomer Nasrul Hadi Kamaruzaman in the Air Lanas seat.

Former Jeli MP Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed had previously confirmed that he would not be defending his Air Lanas seat as he has retired from politics.
