Mitra initiates several programmes for Indian community

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) has initiated several programmes for 2023 with a special focus on education and higher learning, entrepreneurship and career development and social wellbeing.

It will help 10,000 undergraduates with a one-off payment of RM2,000 for their education.

"This subsidy, with 5,000 applicants so far, will be disbursed in phases from August," said Mitra chairman Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan in a statement on Saturday (July 22).

He said the subsidy programme was also open to students of private higher learning institutes on a first come first serve basis.

"Mitra will also disburse subsidies amounting to RM2.49mil to pre-school children and has signed an agreement for the first group of 42 kindergartens which has 1,035 children.

"The second group involving 71 kindergartens with 2,123 children will be disbursed an amount of RM5,095,200 after the agreement is signed on July 27.

Ramanan said a joint programme for 100 Indian youths between Mitra and Weststar Aviation Services Sdn Bhd for aircraft maintenance has been initiated with applications to open on July 26 until Aug 30.

Another, he said, will be the Drone Operations Technical Programme and Data Services and Electrified Advancement Programme with applications to open on July 26.

"The refurbished personal computer programmes for Tamil schools, targeting 527 schools will be implemented in August.

"Lastly, the dialysis aid subsidy programme - targeting 9,000 Indians who are chronic kidney disease patients with each receiving RM9,600 in subsidies for up to a year - will be paid directly to the dialysis centres beginning in August.”
